E-bike laws are set by each state and city, and they change often. Most states recognize Class 2 e-bikes, but rules on age, helmets, and where you can ride vary. Check your state and local laws before you ride, and check again from time to time to make sure you stay in compliance. Changing your bike's speed settings means it's no longer a Class 2 e-bike, which can make it illegal to ride on public roads and paths and voids your warranty.
In most states, Class 2 e-bikes don't need a license, registration, or insurance. Some states and cities add their own rules, so check yours before you ride.
